WHAT
Outer Side is a multi-layered album/concert/installation that draws connections between human emotions and the solar system through ideas of time, duality, gender, and a provocative voice. Each music piece (also referred as sonic being) is inspired by operatic arias and the distance and texture of planets to create a multidimensional musical realm. Five young composers with different cultural scopes (Chinese, European, Iranian, Indian) sculpt such sonic beings that exist individually as well as rotate and orbit in dialogue with each other. Outer Side seeks a side in us contemplating the ways we are perceived outwardly versus the depth of our inner experiences and emotions.
In this Outer Side Open Studio you will be hearing from JU-EH talking about exploring his voice in an experimental context and the vision of Outer Side. You will also learn about the unique creative processes from the other four composers including Dr. Hwarg/Howie Kenty, Kamala Sankaram, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Garrett Fisher, as well as the visual creative team members Lianne Arnold, Liv Swenson, Alan J. Carmona and Ruben Rodas. A launch of the fundraiser for Outer Side and a Q&A session will take place which you can directly engage with all Outer Side artists in various ways.
WHERE
With a badge to Outer Side Open Studio, you will be guided virtually by JU-EH touring Outer Side's first physical shooting location - Center at West Park, which aims to create and maintain a vibrant cultural hub, a forum for conversations and connections that transcend barriers to address the important issues facing our society today.
